Howie Schwartz from Naperville Illinois, gets an early morning start fishing for Redfish and Speckled Trout. Pictured below is a fish caught within the first 30 minutes and then non-stop Speckled Trout action. We were fishing near the Sanibel Island bridge.

Huge Redfish for Sue Novotny

Sue and Bob Novotny from Missouri, went fishing fishing today on a beautiful December day with temperatures in the upper 70's. We fished the shallow grass flats near Sanibel and Captiva Islands using spinning tackle loaded with 8 pound test line. Sue caught more and bigger fish than her husband Bob, which was no surprise to any of us because she always out fishes Bob.
Her big Redfish was too big to keep because it was over the maximum slot size. Releasing that big Redfish brought tears to Bob's eyes.
She and Bob caught numerous trout and she caught most of them too. At one spot they caught trout on almost every cast, even Bob.
It was great day to be fishing and fishing with good people.
Better luck next time Bob.

Sanibel Captiva Island Redfish

Axel Cedarberg took his dad, John, fishing on Saturday and we were looking for Redfish. We were using spinning tackle and using artificial lures. Numerous redfish were spotted on a shallow grass flat near the Sanibel-Captiva Island area. Although dad (John) may have caught most of the fish, it was Axel who caught the biggest Redfish of the day and therefore, the winner.
Nice job Axel.

Trout, Trout and more Trout

Dave Holley of Fort Wayne Indiana, went on a Sanibel Island Fishing Charter today. Dave has never fished in Fort Myers before, at least not in saltwater and he just wanted to catch some fish. Our target was Redfish and some Trout and anything else that would bite. When I say Dave caught some Trout, that would be an understatement. In one particular pothole, Dave made about 50 cast and probably caught 48 trout. Then we left that spot and made some cast to "Tailing" Redfish. Dave caught a redfish on a weedless jig and that fish weighted approximately 6.5 pounds.
Then the wind picked up and we went back to the area were the trout were and he made another 20 cast and probably caught another 18 trout. The trout were caught using DOA Cal lures and DOA's BFL.
Most of the fish were caught near the South Seas Plantation Resort area.
Dave is a good fisherman and that really help out today.

Fly Fishing Sanibel Island Causeway

Tom Terry of Chicago Illinois, decided to try fly fishing for Redfish while in Fort Myers after Thanksgiving. Tom caught several Redfish using his 8 weight fly rod. Most of the fly fishing was done within eyesight of the Sanibel Island Causeway bridge. All of the Redfish caught were between 25 to 28 inches in length, or 5 to 8 pounds each.

Mark finally catches a Redfish

Last week Richard Brzeski took his son Mark, fishing and his son caught all the fish. Yesterday Richard finally beat his son in fishing because he left him at home. (Not really, his son just couldn't make it).
Richard made up for his poor fishing performance last week by catching 9 Redfish today and all were caught using artificial lures. Richard even made room for me on the bow and I was fortunate enough to catch 3 redfish myself. Thanks Richard for inviting me to fish with you.
We were fishing on a shallow grass flat adjacent to Sanibel Island Florida.
I really hope to get a chance to fish with Richard, his son Mark and daughter Amy again sometime soon.

Fly Fishing for Redfish

Dale Wilson out of Feather Craft Fly shop in St Louis, Mo., had a great day fly fishing for Redfish while on a Sanibel Island fishing charter with Capt Paul Hobby (FishingHobby.com).
Dale caught 5 Redfish on an 8wt fly rod in a morning of fishing. He also hooked 4 others but the Redfish manage to spit the hook before getting to the boat.
Dale was sight casting to each of the fish he caught and some were following sting rays.

Mark catches Redfish but his dad can't

Mark Brzeski of Virginia caught several very nice Redfish today, even one that was over the legal maximum size. His dad, Richard, using the same lures as Mark and fishing from the same boat couldn't catch a single Redfish. I wonder who is the better fisherman between the two?
Mark's casting was excellent and he really knows how to set the hook when the fish bites the lure.
Mark was fishing with Capt Paul Hobby (Fishinghobby.com) on a very shallow grass flat near Sanibel Island, Florida.

Nice job Mark

Amy fishing for Redfish in 20 mph winds

Amy Brzeski and her dad Richard, went fishing today with Capt Paul Hobby and faced 20 mph winds and high seas.
Pine Island Sound was very quiet with boats because of the winds but the fish didn't care and neither did Amy.
Amy and her dad caught some nice Redfish using artificial lures on 8 lb test line.
It takes a good fisherman to catch redfish in winds like that and not using live bait.
Nice job Amy and dad.

Nice Trout

Bill Brenner loves trout fishing but Monday was a little slow for catching big trout. However, he did manage to catch a really nice one. This was Bill's lucky day because his wife Linda, usually out fishes him 2 to 1.

Tailing Redfish in Pine Island Sound

Lenny and Kathy from Ohio braved the dense fog Sunday morning and were rewarded with some nice Redfish. Most of the fishing was done in about 12 inches of water and using weedless jigs with spinning outfits. The Redfish were highly educated but several were fooled by the couple.

Big Snook for John

Today I had the pleasure of taking my old friend John Copeland and his friend Gordon Jinnings, fishing near Sanibel Island. Both are good fisherman and Gordon belongs to the Cypress Cove Fishing Team.
We caught numerous ladyfish and trout using CAL lures fishing around birds feeding on minnow schools. The fish there were plentiful.
Snook fishing was a lot tougher, but John being the angler that he is, caught a 38-40 inch snook using 8 lb test power pro line. The fish was hooked on an open flat and put up one heck of a fight.
It will be hard to match this size snook on that light of fishing line.
Very nice job, John.
I hope to see john and Gordon again soon.
