Capt. Paul Hobby fishes the waters of Sanibel, Captiva, and Fort Myers Florida. Sanibel and Captiva are surrounded by miles of lush green grass flats, with extensive mangrove shorelines. The Gulf of Mexico, just outside the islands of Sanibel and Captiva, presents some of the world's best tarpon fishing in April, May and June.

DOA Cal lure + 10 lb line = 18 lb Snook
September can be a little slow in the fishing charter business so I took my son Spencer out fishing. We left the Punta Rassa boat ramp and headed straight to the north end of Sanibel Island. Spencer caught this huge snook using 10 lb test power pro line and a DOA Cal lure on a 1/8 ounce jig head. We estimated the weight to be approximately 18 lbs as it was 40 inches in length. He caught more Snook that day but this was by far the biggest.

Sanibel Flats Redfish
Carter Smith and his good friend Gus caught about 20 redfish on yesterday's Sanibel Island fishing charter. All of the fish were caught using artificial lures and all were released to be caught again by someone else. Some small trout and one snook were also caught. The size of the redfish ranged from 24 to 27 inches. At one point, Carter caught a redfish on four consecutive cast.
