Today I had the pleasure of taking my old friend John Copeland and his friend Gordon Jinnings, fishing near Sanibel Island. Both are good fisherman and Gordon belongs to the Cypress Cove Fishing Team.
We caught numerous ladyfish and trout using CAL lures fishing around birds feeding on minnow schools. The fish there were plentiful.
Snook fishing was a lot tougher, but John being the angler that he is, caught a 38-40 inch snook using 8 lb test power pro line. The fish was hooked on an open flat and put up one heck of a fight.
It will be hard to match this size snook on that light of fishing line.
Very nice job, John.
I hope to see john and Gordon again soon.
Capt. Paul Hobby fishes the waters of Sanibel, Captiva, and Fort Myers Florida. Sanibel and Captiva are surrounded by miles of lush green grass flats, with extensive mangrove shorelines. The Gulf of Mexico, just outside the islands of Sanibel and Captiva, presents some of the world's best tarpon fishing in April, May and June.

Packer fans spotted fishing on Sanibel Island
Steve and his wife, Bonnie, are from Wisconsin and Green Bay Packer fans (I am too).
They both caught some large Redfish, but Steve (who is normally unlucky in fishing) caught the largest which was about 12-14 lbs.
Go Pack Go!!!

Captiva Island Redfish
Jason Cox from Alabama caught numerous fish including this nice Redfish using a weedless jig on a artificial shrimp. This was a late afternoon fishing trip off a Captiva Island. The tide was very low and the winds were very high.

Redfish fishing on Sanibel Island
Tim Anderson and his son Matt, both from Minnesota, caught 17 Redfish on a Sanibel Island fishing charter with Capt Paul Hobby. They were using artificial lures including top water lures. Although Tim and Matt are seasoned anglers, many other redfish and a few snook were hooked but not landed. That is usually the case when fishing for redfish with top water lures.

Black Drum
Howie Schwartz of Naperville IL, caught this 27 pound Black Drum while fishing for Snook on his Fort Myers fishing charter with Capt Paul Hobby. We were casting Root beer colored DOA Terroreyz lures in a creek located in Pine Island Sound. Howie also caught a couple small snook while fly fishing in this same creek.
