AKA, Gary Beach, Mickey Pelczar and Mike Pelczar all from Maryland, I think.
Gary, pictured on the left, is the oldest member in the group and he is a an accomplished angler (at least that's what he told me). Gary was allowed to hold one of the fish caught for the photo opt.
The next time Gary is giving a fishing seminar, it should be on your "must do" list.
Can't wait to fish with Gary again.
Capt. Paul Hobby fishes the waters of Sanibel, Captiva, and Fort Myers Florida. Sanibel and Captiva are surrounded by miles of lush green grass flats, with extensive mangrove shorelines. The Gulf of Mexico, just outside the islands of Sanibel and Captiva, presents some of the world's best tarpon fishing in April, May and June.

Two Old Guys went Fishing
Mike Robbins and Capt Larry Schultz both from downtown Michigan, took a day off from retired life to catch some Redfish. Despite Capt Larry's casting, both were successful in catching some Redfish. The pictures don't lie.

Ken Jr out fishes Ken Sr
I took two Ken Filar's out fishing for redfish but only one of the Ken's caught fish. We were fishing on a shallow grass flat near Sanibel-Captiva Island and the water was about 1 to 2 foot in depth. We were using artificial lures and sight casting to the Redfish. With only one pair of polarized sunglasses between the two Ken's, guess who ended up with the glasses and the fish. Dads are still taking care of their sons at any age.
The redfish were "flashing" in and out of potholes and they made for and easy target and a lot of fun.

Broken fly rod Redfish
Chris Detweiler from Pennsylvania caught a Redfish today fly fishing with a spoon fly while fishing in Pine Island Sound
While fighting the above average sized Redfish, his brand new fly rod broke. This was Chris's only second time fly fishing for Redfish and conditions were anything but perfect, so I think he did a great job. Hopefully, we will try again sometime later this week if the weather permits us.

Wyatt and Hendry - Kings of the Ladyfish and cold water fishing
Wyatt and Hendry Dodge from cold Connecticut came to warm sunny Florida to fish and it was anything but warm. The day we fished was very windy and VERY cold but it did not bother these brothers at all. They caught tons of ladyfish, some trout and plenty of mangrove snapper. These guys are real anglers and never complain about the conditions one time.
Most of the fish were caught on DOA Cal jigs and live shrimp for the snapper.

Air Head Strikes again
Mickey Pelczar from Maryland, caught some very nice Redfish yesterday using DOA's newest lure. The lure is called Air Head and the redfish were "breaking their neck" to go after that lure. This was partly because conditions were good for fishing and redfish in our area have never seen a lure like this. It also helps that Mickey is a good angler.
We used a few different lures that day but all of our strikes, hits and misses came from the DOA Air Head. Mickey and I were fishing near Sanibel Island, Fl in about 2 feet of water with an incoming tide and the wind was blowing 20 mph out of the South.
Hopefully you will see Mickey again featured in this fishing report, very soon. Mickey fishes more than his brother in law, Mike, who if you remember from a recent post, only fishes with me every 10 years or so.

Subject: Oversized Redfish
Chris Brown from Decatur, Alabama caught some very nice redfish on Monday. We were fishing some shallow grass flats near Bokeelia, Fl using soft plastic lures and spinning gear. We didn't catch a lot, but every redfish that he did catch were all over the maximum 27 inch for keeper size.
Not bad for his first time fishing for redfish.

New DOA Redfish lure
Brothers Steve and Mike Grochowski caught some beautiful Redfish today using a new lure from DOA. The lure is called Airhead and will be on the market very soon. Steve is from Baltimore Raven country (Super Bowl Champs) and Mike is from Atlanta and they were not in the Super Bowl. They also caught numerous jacks and a few trout today as well.
Mike comes down to fish with me every 10 to 15 years, so don't look for him in this report anytime soon.

New Years Day 2013 a day of rule breaking.
Daniel Tepper, John Zender, Bill Tepper and Captain Paul went out on a fishing trip. We were after Red fish, Grouper and any other edible fish we could catch. We started by catching baitfish near the bridge and came close to scratching the side of the boat a few times.
We started the day with Daniel catching a jack but quickly moved on to the Grouper hole. It did not take long before John hooked into a nice one. Bill followed with a Spanish Mackerel and Daniel followed with a couple of Sea Trout. Too bad the Grouper was out of season and the Sea Trout were too small. It was fun to see Daniel hook into a Tern diving for his bait. Captain Paul was able to release it unharmed.
The day ended with Daniel and Bill catching a couple nice Red fish and John losing a couple.
Oh yea, fish and wildlife let us go even though we were 1 life jacket short. I suppose the captain would have to have gone down with the ship. JZ
